Breast cancer is known as one of the most serious diseases every woman faces. Doctors are trying everything they can to lower that risk and avoid this life-threatening disease. But, sometimes we harm our own health unknowingly, in that way increasing the chances of developing breast cancer, among other diseases.
As a study that was conducted by a team of researchers at Kaiser Permanente showed, women diagnosed with breast cancer that consumed a diet rich in full-fat dairy have bigger risk of dying compared to women that are diagnosed with breast cancer but they consume a diet rich in low-fat dairy.
The growth of breast cells is stimulated by the hormone estrogen, and this includes the growth of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Estrogen is produced and stored in fat cells, with the majority of experts claiming that most dairy products from the USA and Western countries contain dangerous levels of both estrogen and progesterone, as the milk often comes from pregnant cows. If we go by this logic, it is much safe to assume that low-fat dairy products contain lower levels of estrogen and progesterone because they are stripped from most of the fat. That’s the reason why it’s advisable for the women diagnosed with breast cancer to consume less full-fat dairy products and more dairy products that are low-fat. This is especially important for persons with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.
The study we mentioned earlier managed to isolate the following full-fat dairy products as the most dangerous ones: whole milk, condensed or evaporated milk, pudding, ice cream, custard, flan, cheese, yogurt and butter.
The women that participated in the study were monitored in a period of 12 years and the results were pretty shocking. The subjects who consumed one or more servings of full-fat dairy products every day had a 64% higher chance of dying from any factor and a 49% higher chance of dying from breast cancer compared to the subjects who consumed low-fat dairy products or less servings of full-fat dairy product a day!
Despite the fact that these results are quite shocking we have to consider a couple of other things before we jump into conclusions. This study revealed a connection between full-fat dairy products and fatal breast cancer consequences. Still, it doesn’t prove that the one automatically leads to the other. More experiments, tests and researches should be done in order to discover the real connection between these two.
Every patient diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer is advised to do everything they can to reduce the risk of reappearance and increase the possibility of survival. Here are some advices these persons should follow so as to improve their overall state:
